War of the Gargantuas (1966)
It’s 1966 and Japan is going nuts over big fighting monsters. An enormous humanoid monkey-thing is seen eating humans and wrestling with huge octopus, and the people of Japan are terrified. A smug American professor (Russ Tamblyn is the cast member speaking English, while everyone else is quite obviously dubbed) and his glamourous but traditionally helpless female assistant (Akemi Togawa) are tracking down “their gargantua” they raised from a baby, but not before it wreaks havoc in Tokyo and steps on cars.
Definitely 3 stars. The technicolor special effects are seriously worthwhile. Perfect distraction for those weird days between Christmas and New Year, and to avoid seeing your family.
