Alessandra Garosi – piano
Adam Simmons – saxophones, clarinets, shakuhachi
Two extraordinary musicians with a passion for exploring musical possibilities come together again for this special concert. Alessandra and Adam first met in 2009 as fellow artists at Prague’s Alternativa Festival and have since performed in Tuscany, Sicily and Australia, including Ballarat’s Festival of Slow Music and released two albums, including “Zappa in Recital” recorded live at Melbourne Recital Centre and performed at MONA FOMA.
Alessandra Garosi (ITALY), is an exceptional pianist of international standing, from a classical background but with a passion for many styles of music including rock and border-line music. This is exemplified by her work with Harmonie Ensemble, who are known for their chamber ensemble versions of the music of Frank Zappa. Based in Tuscany, Alessandra also has a long-standing relationship with Australia, including with composers May Howlett and Robert Davidson.
“... brilliant pianist, and finally I can write pieces for her which I could never play myself.” – Roger Eno
Adam Simmons is heavily active in Melbourne in both contemporary classical music and in jazz, collaborating with numerous international groups of the most diverse genres. His recent projects include the highly acclaimed “The Usefulness of Art” concert series featuring Michael Kieran Harvey, Arcko Symphonic Ensemble, Ray Pereira and Wang Zheng-Ting, as well as having directed both Festival of Slow Music and Wangaratta Festival of Jazz & Blues.
“… Adam Simmons is producing some of the most incredible jazz in Australia or anywhere else.” – Raphael Solarsh, Arts Hub
