Hetty Kate Swings the Standards

General admission: $25
General admission + supper: $45

Fresh from Paris, jazz vocalist Hetty Kate is looking forward visiting Ballarat to perform with outstanding guitarist James Sherlock and bassist, Ben Hanlon.

"Hetty has an approach to the songs that feels just right. She sings with an easy confidence that is infectious." Joseph Lang : Jersey Jazz Magazine (USA)

Credited with a 'natural musicality' Hetty Kate's pure tone and swing give a nod to the jazz singers of the 1940s and 50's whilst keeping a style that is all her own. In the last decade she has graced stages large and small from New York to New Zealand, toured with James Morrison, sung with the MSO, featured at jazz festivals around the world, released eight albums and moved to Paris.

For this intimate concert, you can expect a smorgasbord of beautiful songs from Johnny Mercer, Cole Porter, Harold Arlen, George Gershwin and more - plucked from the well thumbed pages of the Great American Songbook. Lots of swing, some surprises, and as always many anecdotes about life in France.

"She’s truly one of the best swing-style vocalists (I’m talking 1940, Benny Goodman style 4/4 swing) on the current scene..” Will Friedwald : Jazz Critic, Wall Street Journal (USA)
